Dave Addis

It is with great sadness that we report the death of one of our Partnership Group members, Dave Addis, who passed away on Tuesday morning. Our thoughts and love are with Sarah and the children at this time.

R.I.P Dave you will be greatly missed

Knit and natter

Jsan popped into knit and natter today to have a look at the projects being made – check out the photos – and also heard from Julie who showed her the blanket she had just finished

“When I started coming to the group in January I couldn’t crochet at all and now I have made this blanket. Everyone in the group is so supportive and they have all helped and advised me. i’ve learnt about different needles and wools. Coming to the group has made me feel great and I have 3 or projects already planned for the next few months. I like the company and look forward to coming each week. The sense of achievement is amazing.”

Well done Julie – the blanket looks great! 😊 You should be very proud.

Knit and natter is a great group to come to, everyone is welcome. It meets on Monday mornings at the community centre 9.00 – midday with free tea, coffee and squash

welcome Alisya

Alisya Hill is the new community development worker based at the Big Kirk Hallam Community Centre

We caught up with Alisya and asked her why she had applied for the role. She said

“When I saw the advert I thought it was the perfect job for me; I love meeting people, making a difference to the community and organising things. I want to make the community centre a thriving environment where people feel comfortable to come in for a chat, try out activities and meet other people.”

Alisya is really keen to meet as many of you as possible so pop along to the community centre to catch up with her.

Both Jsan and Alisya are working through the results of the recent survey about things you wanted to see taking place at the community centre so keep an eye out for new activities being organised in the near future

Results of our survey

We had a good response to our recent survey about the future use of the community centre, with support for all of the following:

Community café; bookswap, advice sessions, banking / credit union; meeting rooms for self help groups; breakfast club; DIY classes; film club; parent and toddler groups; help with filling in forms; food bank and clothing bank; help with computers and smartphones; cookery classes; exercise groups; arts and craft sessions; job hunting; tea dances; community choir. We also received the following suggestions; table top sales; gardeners club; friendship club; bereavement information; adult education classes; companion club

We also had some queries and concerns about the potential for noise impact, in particular from residents who live close to the community centre and questions about the funding.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed and Alisya and Jsan will work through all the suggestions.

Keep an eye out for new activities starting at the community centre
