Alisya Hill is the new community development worker based at the Big Kirk Hallam Community Centre
We caught up with Alisya and asked her why she had applied for the role. She said
“When I saw the advert I thought it was the perfect job for me; I love meeting people, making a difference to the community and organising things. I want to make the community centre a thriving environment where people feel comfortable to come in for a chat, try out activities and meet other people.”
Alisya is really keen to meet as many of you as possible so pop along to the community centre to catch up with her.
Both Jsan and Alisya are working through the results of the recent survey about things you wanted to see taking place at the community centre so keep an eye out for new activities being organised in the near future
We had a good response to our recent survey about the future use of the community centre, with support for all of the following:
Community café; bookswap, advice sessions, banking / credit union; meeting rooms for self help groups; breakfast club; DIY classes; film club; parent and toddler groups; help with filling in forms; food bank and clothing bank; help with computers and smartphones; cookery classes; exercise groups; arts and craft sessions; job hunting; tea dances; community choir. We also received the following suggestions; table top sales; gardeners club; friendship club; bereavement information; adult education classes; companion club
We also had some queries and concerns about the potential for noise impact, in particular from residents who live close to the community centre and questions about the funding.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed and Alisya and Jsan will work through all the suggestions.
Keep an eye out for new activities starting at the community centre
