community chest update

Here is a quick update on the community chest.

We had our second training session for the community chest team on Tuesday and increased its strength and depth.

We had some great feedback, including from Julie about the involvement of the students from the College: “As a resident of Kirk Hallam, I think those two boys, Oliver and Mason deserve a big thank you on behalf of the residents of Kirk Hallam, for their excellent behaviour and good manners and for giving up their time. Well done Lads.

We also heard fantastic stories of how the awards in round one have benefited local groups and residents, including the Studio Players recent show and the football club’s growing numbers. Congratulations to them.

The panel is all set and looking forward to receiving your applications. Remember, the community chest is a small awards scheme for local activity directly supported by residents. If you haven’t seen it, here is the application form.

Any questions or wanting advice on drafting the application, come along to our information session at the 6th form Building at Kirk Hallam community college from 4 to 6.30 pm on Thursday 21 November.

Remember, the deadline for this round is 5pm on our anniversary, 10 December.

Those shortlisted will be invited to meet the panel for some questions on either Monday 16 or Tuesday 17 December at the 6th Form building sometime between 5.30 and 7pm. Those who have signed the application will be asked to attend.

The panel looks forward to some more great applications and awards to help support residents and local groups in making Kirk Hallam an even better place to live.

Congratulations to Big Kirk Hallam first award winners

On 21 September 2013 our chair, Brian Cooper, announced Big Kirk Hallam’s first group of successful grant applicants at the Community College’s great Autumn Fair.

First up were those who gained £500 grants for running community events over the summer and helping Big Kirk Hallam get its name and message out to a wide number and range of local residents. Esther Collington collected the cheque on behalf of Lakes and Meadows. The other two events sponsored by Big Kirk Hallam were Harvest Moon and the Autumn Fair.

Next up were the awards from the Big Kirk Hallam community chest. This is a grants fund for amounts up to £500 or up to £1000. An application must be led by at least two residents of any age on behalf of a local group. Decision are made by a panel of residents. If you want to get involved email admin.

Congratulations to four groups on their successful applications and we really look forward to hearing what’s happened and celebrating what’s changed with the help of Big Kirk Hallam.

The groups are:

· Kirk Hallam Youth Football Club

· The Drama Group

· The Lunch Club

· And the elder’s gardening project.

Don’t forget the second round is now open and the closing date for applications is 10 December 2013 – our first anniversary!

Big Kirk Hallam community chest training report

And here it is!

We covered loads of stuff, including building agreement about the criteria we would look to use as a grant making panel, our understanding of what Big Kirk Hallam looks to achieve, our ability to support people to apply, our ability to make decisions and to do so fairly. The Big Kirk Hallam community chest will be launched on 7 July at the Lakes and Meadows event.
