Here you will find the stories of action and change in 2013.

What’s changed at the Lakes and Meadows summer event

Esther Collington, Treasurer of the Friends of Lakes and Meadows, recently wrote to our chair to thank Big Kirk Hallam for its support in helping run the very successful Lakes and Meadows event.

Esther writes:

“Please convey to Big Kirk Hallam the Friends of Kirk Hallam Lake thanks for the wonderful grant. The Lakeside Festival was very successful. Many local people came on the day, with children particularly enjoying the pony rides and fairground rides. There was a wildlife theme to the day with pond dipping, birds of prey and the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust educating both children and adults. Some people even said it was the best Festival ever, which places some pressure on us for next year! Thanks again for the much appreciated grant.”

Congratulations to Big Kirk Hallam first award winners

On 21 September 2013 our chair, Brian Cooper, announced Big Kirk Hallam’s first group of successful grant applicants at the Community College’s great Autumn Fair.

First up were those who gained £500 grants for running community events over the summer and helping Big Kirk Hallam get its name and message out to a wide number and range of local residents. Esther Collington collected the cheque on behalf of Lakes and Meadows. The other two events sponsored by Big Kirk Hallam were Harvest Moon and the Autumn Fair.

Next up were the awards from the Big Kirk Hallam community chest. This is a grants fund for amounts up to £500 or up to £1000. An application must be led by at least two residents of any age on behalf of a local group. Decision are made by a panel of residents. If you want to get involved email admin.

Congratulations to four groups on their successful applications and we really look forward to hearing what’s happened and celebrating what’s changed with the help of Big Kirk Hallam.

The groups are:

· Kirk Hallam Youth Football Club

· The Drama Group

· The Lunch Club

· And the elder’s gardening project.

Don’t forget the second round is now open and the closing date for applications is 10 December 2013 – our first anniversary!
